When I do a nutritional assessment, it’s not just what you have been eating in the last week. I want to know what were your health habits in your teens and 20’s? What was your mom’s train of thought raising you? Were you a “carby” or did your mom grow her own garden? Was fast food a center of your diet or did she make your lunch every day?
Nutrition is cumulative. Our bodies store different components of health; our bodies store toxins. So, if you have 10 years of bad eating, but you’ve been healthy the last year, it doesn’t mean that the last year is not beneficial. However, we do have to address the 10 years of bad eating, and how the toxins that your body stored affected your body over that time.
Your nutritional assessment will also include muscle testing but may also utilize Genova Diagnostics and Cell Sciences Systems, which provide comprehensive and innovative clinical laboratory testing in immunology and cell biology supporting personalized treatment and prevention of chronic diseases.
For most of my twenties, I was about 30 lbs overweight with very poor energy levels. I was diagnosed with IBS. Despite being a division one basketball athlete, I required about 10-15 hours of sleep a day. My health continued to decline with hormonal imbalances, adrenal fatigue, low thyroid, polycystic ovarian, and insulin resistance. It wasn’t until I decided to cut the foods out that my kinesiologist had explained I needed to avoid when I was 19 years old that my health slowly start to improve. It took several years for me to repair my intestinal tract, build my immune system, and mentally feel energetic again. I’m well aware that people are ready to make health changes on their own time. It took me years to listen to Dr. West advice about eliminating certain foods. I only wish I had been ready sooner because the quality of my life dramatically improved.
This experience changed the trajectory of my whole life by giving me knowledge and a choice to better my health. I am passionate about doing the same for others. I love to inspire people to become their own health care advocates and biggest cheerleaders! By developing the ability to listen to our body, we are able to get so much information into what might be causing our ailments.
